возможно что из-за неверно выбранных опциях будущего ядра (2.6.18), в процессе когда все этапы компиляции завершены, и происходит сборка deb файла (может конечно я и ошибаюсь) система падает... всё это так и было задумано ?
собираю новый deb так...
apt-get source linux-image-2.6.18
cd linux-2.6-2.6.18.dfsg.1
make-kpkg clean
make menuconfig
fakeroot make-kpkg --initrd --revision=hosting.1 kernel_image
ну и если всё ок
dpkg -i ../linux-image-2.6.18-i386_hosting.1_i386.deb

Часто помогает просмотр логов, а то что вы сказали мало поможет для решения проблемы, приложите лог тогда хоть что то определенное сказать можно будет

судя по логам он у тебя должен собраться, ошибок то нету.. у тебя машина перезагружаеться что ли при сборке или что то другое??

нет, не перезагружается, просто на мониторе kernel panic бла бла бла... бла бла бла всегда разное, машина перестаёт реагировать на любые действия, есть мнение что с памятью что-то не в порядке, но осенью я её гонял, ничего обнаружено небыло (тестил память не помню чем, создавал загрузочный диск и с него грузился, гонял всю ночь) да и вообще работал на этой машине под виндой на этой машине и проблем небыло ... чуть попозже напишу что за бла бла бла появляется более подробно

хм, а щас ядро собралось с тем же конфигом, с которым вчера вываливалась в кернел паник, судя по всему порблеммы с какой-то железкой, вы как думаете?
