A very trivial problem, but an annoying one nonetheless :

I often switch the display picture for my Windows XP desktop background. I have tons of Nintendo screenshots (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc.); download pics from Astronomy of the Day (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html ); & many other game & sci-fi pics.

I change these background manually by opening the 'Display Properties' 'Desktop' tab & 'Browse'ing to the desired folder/file. Normally when the 'Display Properties' 'Desktop' tab is opened, the list of background files is a relatively short list of the default BMPs located in the WINDOWS directory.

However every once in a while, when I open the 'Desktop' tab, it wants to list almost EVERY picture available in all 'My Pictures' subfolders. Since I have several thousand pictures, it takes 20-30 seconds before this tab is available to use (compared to 1-3 seconds normally). During this 20-30 seconds the hard drive is being constantly accessed so I assume that it is reading all the picture file names from all 'My Pictures' subfolders.


Does anyone have any idea why this happens? How to avoid it? Or how to clear the condition -- i.e. prevent ALL 'My Picture' files from loading into the background list?

При попытке сменить фоновую картинку экрана в список картинок, которые предлагает Windows XP, влезает список из My Pictures. Как избавиться? Спасибо.

Хм, что-то при загрузке файлов с официального сайта вылазиет 404 ошибка. Хотел скачать дистрибутив с так называемыми "исходниками" этого пакета, а файлов нет на сервере и на его зеркале.
И у меня сейчас 64-битная система. На сайте посмотрел и написано "Windows XP x64 is based off the the Windows Server 2003 codebase (NT5.2) and not the original XP (NT5.1) and so XPize 4.7 and earlier is not compatible.". Но помойму там все дело в Ресурс Хакере, который банально не заменит ресурсы в 64-битных файлах. Подскажите альтернативу ИксПайзу если такая есть кто знает. =)
