That's because 1.60 was the first shoot for v2. It contains much of
the intended functionality and was originally intended to be the first
v2.0 beta. It fell short of the mark and user pressure said there were
too many feature enhancements for release to be delayed for too long,
so RITlabs chose to release the interim 1.60.

All I know is that the starting point of focus is a core IMAP engine
and HTML editor. Yes, yes - don't all shout at once - I think there
are higher priorities than HTML messaging too. I also know, as a
software developer, you have to fill the holes in the feature set that
are inhibiting sales. Once they're in (along with the increase in
revenue), you can add the other stuff you - and your user base -
*really* wants.
That's not to say that DBCS isn't an early / high priority, only that
I don't know about it.

Put a shortcut into the Windows "Start | Programs | Startup" folder.

No.

Custom toolbars are pencilled in for version 2 and are not yet
available.
"View unread" can be done quickly by Alt-clicking on the envelope icon
of an unread message. Alt-clicking in the message list is a very
simple way of doing a quick filter. Press <Ctrl-Escape> to cancel any
quick-filters.

No. Perhaps you should use the Mail Ticker. When you double click on
that you get a "virtual folder" containing *all* unread messages
(well, you can actually restrict which ones appear in the ticker). You
can size the ticker to be pretty unobtrusive. Mine is about 1.5cm at
the bottom left of the desktop.

There are plans to do something like that for V2. There are some
packages that provide "conduits" to interface news to email. There was
a thread about a month ago that came up with a good option for it. See
the thread "Newsgroups with The Bat! and MailTraq". This refers to the
http://www.mailtraq.com server software.
