Установив GIMP 2.2.1 я был приятно удивлен возможности реальнной работы с SVG. Только открыв файл со смешанным русско-китайским текстом (лист рабочей тетради переводчика) я понял, что в Batik и в броузерной плагине от Adobe я имел возможность манипуляций с текстом (поиск, извлечение в буфер обмена), а здесь - нет.
Kогда я отконвертировал SVG в формат GIF, меня ждало еще одно разочарование.
GIF был круто сжат с ощутимой потерей качества, а у маломерного SVG при конвертации в GIF нарушаются пропорции текста и его привязка к сетке таблицы:

не смотря на это configure говорит:

На сколько я понимаю реч идёт о линуксе.
Я думаю что это не проблема GIMP.
А что-то связанное с либаби твоего конкретного дистра.
По этому IMHO тебе смогут лучше помочь на форуме поддержки твоего дистра.
Возможно существуют готовые пакети и т.д.

Есть ли аналог фотошоповского Save for Web в Gimp-e?

Установи GLIB Например, у меня очень редко программы компилируются сразу. Иногда приходится перед компиляцией установить/оновить чуть не десяток других программ.

1. В скрипте посмотри, где он glib ищет и попробуй туда его заинсталить.
2. Задай правильный путь з glib в configure. Что-то типа ./configure --with-glib=/usr/local/include/glib-2.0

А под виндой, слабовата, по сравнению с фотошоп или даже с улидовским фотоимпактом

По мне так GIMP конечно неплохая штука, но интерфейс смотрится только на маке нормально.
