Latin American jazz singer Karen Souza, who has performed and recorded under the pseudonyms Pacha Ibiza, FTV (FashionTV), and Privé, is best known for her work on the popular jazz and '80s series, which featured sultry, jazz-infused covers of '8os hits like "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" (Culture Club) and "Personal Jesus" (Depeche Mode). Souza also contributed to '70s and '90s versions of the series as well.

Practicing the honking, jump blues style of jazz, saxophonist Sax Gordon appeared alongside numerous well-known artists and even recorded albums of his own. Born Gordon Beadle, the Boston-based musician performed on albums by such artists as Champion Jack Dupree, Luther "Guitar Jr" Johnson, Duke Robillard, and many more during the 1990s. He began recording solo albums with Have Horn Will Travel, which Bullseye Blues released in 1998, followed by a second album, You Knock Me Out, in 2000. On his solo releases, Gordon leads his bandmates through a variety of styles that variably fall somewhere between jazz and blues. He writes many of his own songs and carefully selects a few covers as well for his albums. In 2001 and again in 2002, he received W.C. Handy Award nominations.

Ernest Quarles was born in Detroit, Michigan. His father was an audiophile with a state of the art sound system, and an enormous jazz collection. His mother loved listening to the popular music of the day including artists like Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, and many others.

Being in the heart of Motown, he was fortunate enough to have grown up in the same neighborhood as many of Motown’s musical icons, including Gladys Knight & Pips, The Four Tops, and Stevie Wonder. In fact, Ernest said that when he was 13 years old, all four of the Four Tops were on his paper route!

At a young age, Ernest showed an affinity to music. His mother would make him sing Jackson Five songs for her friends when they came over for Bridge club, and he was always happy to do it.

Throughout elementary and high school, he collected albums and developed an eclectic taste in music which included artists from a wide variety of genres like George Benson, Grover Washington Jr., Wes Montgomery, Earth Wind and Fire, The Ohio Players, Pat Metheny, Al Jarreau, Gino Vanelli, Parliament Funkadelic, Yes, and Led Zepplin.

It wasn’t until he went off to college to Morehouse in Atlanta, Georgia that he started learning to play the guitar. He taught himself the basics by buying a Beatle’s songbook, and learning to play their repertoire on the acoustic guitar. From there he was fortunate enough to be able to study jazz theory under one of Morehouse’s greatest marching and jazz band leaders Roderick Smith. After two summers of intense wood shedding while attending Georgia Tech, he was good enough to begin playing and singing in several college fusion and funk bands around Atlanta, doing frat parties, proms, weddings, and eventually restaurants and bars. One of the bands, Frenzync opened for Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes to a standing room only crowd in the mid 80’s.

Ernest now resides in Atlanta with his family, where he has weekly gigs at hotels and restaurants around the city, and does session work. At the beginning of the year, with the encouragement of many of his friends and fans, he began the EQuinox project.

From an astronomical perspective the EQuinox is of course a transitional event, when the sun is at zenith over the Equator occurring twice a year on March 20 and September 22. Since his birthday is September 22, his initials are EQ, and this is indeed a transitional time, the album actually named itself – EQuinox.

1976 in der Demokratischen Republik Kongo geboren, hat Mutombe schon als Kind auf einer selbst gebauten Gitarre seine Musikleidenschaft ausgelebt. Seit 2002 lebte er in Südafrika und tauchte tief in die dortige Musikszene ein, spielte beispielsweise bei Afro Fiesta. Seit 2010 in Leipzig ansässig, präsentiert der Songschreiber, Sänger, Gitarrist, Bassist und Percussionist jetzt sein neues Album, das eine unglaublich warme und lebendige Musik zwischen World, Afro-Pop, Urban Folk, Blues und Soul enthält.
Die 13 Eigenkompositionen sind zwar die ersten Soloveröffentlichungen des Sängers, wurden aber im Studio durch viele Gäste an Instrumenten wie Saxophon, Geige, Djembe, Piano und vor allem Background-Gesängen in optimale Form gebracht. Mutomba’s einprägsame Stimme singt auf Französisch, Lingala, Swahili und Englisch mit berührendem Timbre, während akustisch-analoge Stimmung die Songs prägt. Brooklyn vocalist and composer Will Downing has hovered on the cusp of stardom since the late '80s, occasionally making some arresting album cuts but never the major hit or string of records he needed to establish himself. Downing sang in Arthur Baker's "Wally Jump Junior" group, and then employed Baker as his producer when he signed with Island. He did session work in the early and mid-'80s, singing on dates with Daryl Payne, Marc Sadane, Warp 9, and Jennifer Holiday. Downing's 1988 debut, Will Downing, included a revised version of John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme." Downing recorded and produced a duet with British soul songstress Mica Paris in 1989, remaking "Where Is the Love." His second release, Come Together as One, was in more of an urban contemporary mode, but his third one took a jazz-oriented turn. Released in 1991, A Dream Fulfilled included an ambitious version of War's "The World Is a Ghetto." He has been a favorite of audiences in England, releasing Pleasures of the Night in 1998 and All the Man You Need two years later. Sensual Journey from 2002 found him recording for the GRP label. Emotions arrived in 2003 and was followed a year later by the holiday album Christmas, Love and You. Soul Symphony arrived in 2005. In late 2006, Downing was diagnosed with polymyositis — a disorder causing weakness in joints and muscles. As a result, Downing recorded the majority of his vocals for 2008's After Tonight from a wheelchair. Buoyed by fan support, Downing continued to struggle against the disease and released the soulful Classique in 2009, followed by Lust, Love & Lies (An Audio Novel) on the Concord imprint in 2010.

Saxophonist and composer Miguel Zenón is one of a select group of jazz musicians who have successfully navigated the often contradictory poles of innovation and tradition. A multi-Grammy nominee, he has developed a unique voice as a composer and conceptualist, concentrating his efforts on perfecting a fine mix between Latin American folk music and jazz. In addition to his numerous dates as a bandleader, Zenón has worked as a sideman with Charlie Haden, David Sánchez, Ray Barretto, the Mingus Big Band, Michele Rosewoman, Luis Perdomo, Bobby Hutcherson, Fred Hersch, Kenny Werner, Steve Coleman, and Hans Glawischnig, and has lectured and taught master classes all over the globe.

A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Zenón dug Coltrane in high school but didn't get serious about a career in jazz until attending the Berklee School of Music. While at Berklee, he hooked up with drummer Bob Moses, who invited him to play with the Either/Orchestra, giving the saxophonist his first professional experience. Awards and grants lead to Zenón pursuing and earning a Masters in Saxophone Performance in 2001 from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.

Looking Forward, Zenón's debut album as a leader, appeared in 2002. it fused jazz, Latin, and classical influences, and earned positive reviews at home and abroad. In 2003, he and his Rhythm Collective quartet were selected by the Kennedy Center's Jazz ambassador program to teach and perform in West Africa. That same year, he recorded his sophomore effort, Ceremonial, which was produced by Branford Marsalis and released on the Marsalis Music label in early 2004. Also in 2004, he recorded as a founding member of the SF Jazz Collective. In 2005, he and Brian Lynch co-headlined a date entitled 24/7, and later in the year released the groundbreaking Jibaro, a jazz tribute to "la música jíbara" — a string-based folkloric music popular in the Puerto Rican countryside, that ended up on many critics' year-end lists.

Throughout 2006 and 2007, Zenón kept busy. He recorded with the SF Jazz Collective and was part of its world tour, and he played on pianist Edsel Gomez's debut offering, Cubist Music. The saxophonist had a momentous 2008. His Awake album was issued by Marsalis Music to widespread critical acclaim, and he received a MacArthur Foundation Award aka the "genius" grant" — and a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. His Esta Plena album appeared in 2009.

In 2011, Alma Adentro was released and nominated for a Grammy. Zenón founded Caravana Cultural that year, a program that organizes free-of-charge jazz concerts in rural areas of Puerto Rico. In 2012, Rayuela, his debut for the Sunnyside label, was released. In 2013, Zenón issued the first offering from his own Miel Music label: Oye! Live in Puerto Rico, which documented his reunion with the Rhythm Collective band

Italian jazz-soul vocalist Mario Biondi was born of artistic stock in the Sicilian city of Catania. His great grandfather was a respected painter, his grandmother a singer, and his father a popular songwriter. Biondi sang throughout his childhood, first performing in public at age 12 in church, and soon singing in public squares before hundreds of people. From there he competed in the Festival della Canzone Siciliana, taking third place. Biondi's musical pursuits earned him the opportunity to perform alongside such Italian vocal greats as Califano, Bongusto, and Fiorello, as well as American legend Ray Charles. As word of his talent and skill got out, Biondi found himself collaborating with groups like the Change, Mario Brothers, and Funky Company on recordings and tours. Given his powerful and unique voice, it was not long before Biondi was encouraged to pursue a solo career. Featuring material inspired by American R&B artists like Lou Rawls, Luther Vandross, and Donny Hathaway, Biondi's debut record was released in 2006 on the boutique label Family Affair. Handful of Soul featured the single "This Is What You Are," which went immediately into heavy rotation throughout Italy and the U.K. A year later Biondi performed the song at the important Sanremo Festival in Italy, bolstering the record's popularity and helping to push it into Billboard's European Top 100 chart.

The die is cast or rather the cube is releasing the music. "Let It Flow" According to this motto, three well-known musicians, songwriters and producers from Stuttgart (Germany) found themselves together in a studio and recorded an album. The result is a fusion between Nu Jazz, Lounge and Electro House. It is the love for jazz and electronic music, which the musicians from cube have in common. Each one has his own musical Vita and the synergy creates the substantive cube sound. LENNY MAC DOWELL - flutist, keyboarder, composer, producer and label owner of Blue Flame Records has been working on solo projects for many years. Numerous CD releases, his own songs as well as film music compositions gives diversity to the distinguished cube sound. The jazzy and groovy played flute personalizes the style of Lenny Mac Dowell. PIT WIDMER - saxophonist, composer, producer and studio musician is the saxophone and keyboard player at cube. He programmed and recorded the cube production in his studio. Pit Widmer is also entangled with jazz and electronic music, and has released numerous productions. Most successful, a No. 1 in the DJ Top Forty. MANFRED HIRSCHBACH - singer, keyboarder and composer gives cube, besides keyboard sounds, also a voice. Manfred Hirschbach is very well known in the Stuttgart music scene. His deep, soulful timbre stands alone and gives the songs of cube high recognition value. "Let It Flow" grooves with loungy passages and jazzy elements. As an intro for this production, is a very own cube produced version of The Doors "Riders on the Storm" - the perfect starter for this unique project and production.
