Windows Commander

ВинКомандер .... однозночно.
Хотя на вкус и цвет.
Windows Comander теперь называется Total Comander
Единственный недостаток WC и TC - много жрет памяти
не хочу показаться извращенцем, но три года сижу на Servant Salamanderпопробуй TC....

2. Existing Plugins and Development
Total commander basic comes "bare-bones". Nothing is there - you must
have extra-plugins. Number of plugins and their quality is Average.
SDK (development) of plugins for Total commander is not standartized.
Power Desk, for example comes with HUGE library of viewers (actually the same library included in Quick View Pro)
3. Speed, Look and Feel
Total Commander is not FAST in many operations: file search, copy, moving through directories etc. Just try Servant Salamander for speed and you'll undersand why.
4. Friendliness, design, style
These days it's not less important than anything else. Look at Windows XP - it's all about skins, themes, colors etc.
Why to use a tool which looks outdated?
5. FTP client is Poor
Take a look on the Magellan Explorer FTP implementation -
It doesn't fall far behind CUTE FTP!
7. Integration with Windows
Total Commander is a stand-alone tool only. It can not replace Windows Explorer, nor it has any of the new views (FilmStrip, etc.) of Windows XP.
Powerdesk and Directory Opus Integrate with Windows perfectly -
They can REPLACE windows explorer - so there's no need to call
the program every time.
8. Distribution & price
Well... If you intend actually to PAY for the software (weird concept, eh?)
Total commander costs more and gives you less than Servant Salamander, Magellan Explorer and Power Desk (v4 is Free!)
Directory Opus is quite costly - but it deserves it.
6. Support, versions etc.
How many versions of Total (Windows) Commander you can recall?
Each version didn't have something revolutionary new - mostly
a small change or a bug fix. It took a lot of time to add plugins - and now with all of the plugins it grows in size - over 2.5 MB - while
Servant Salamander and Magellan Explorer are still very Compact.
1. Configurability
2. Existing Plugins and Development. Total commander basic comes "bare-bones". Nothing is there - you must have extra-plugins.
5. FTP client is Poor
6. Support, versions etc.
7. Integration with Windows
8. Distribution & price
9. Don't take my own word for it
Фар - это конструктор
для меня определяющим при выборе мэнеджера стало то, что в Salamander изумительно реализована функция навигации. нигде такой нет.
Поставил Сервант, после беглого обзора не нашёл...
