Launch Radio Networks reports: Metallica has written about 25 songs for its ninth studio effort and is now concentrating on trimming that list to one album's worth of material, which it will begin recording in January. Drummer Lars Ulrich told Launch on Tuesday (December 5) that the band's summer European tour, on which Metallica played its classic 1986 album "Master of Puppets" in its entirety, paved the way for the sound of the new album. "What I hear sounds very lively, very spunky, got a lot of energy," he said. "I think that the shows we played over the summer, we were definitely leaner and kind of in better shape than we've been in a long time. I mean, having to deliver 'Master of Puppets' for three months this summer definitely revitalized some of that stuff in us, and it's been kind of fun having that in the back of our mind as we've been going through this process. I don't know what else to say.
Referring to the controversial, low-fi production on 2003's "St. Anger", Ulrich said that he's "taken the drums out of the cardboard boxes" this time, and that lead guitarist Kirk Hammett will lay down guitar solos on this record.
The new disc will be produced by Rick Rubin and is expected out by late 2007.
15 years of bad haircuts
For a band that resisted the idea for so long, Metallica sure ended up loving music videos. They just released "Metallica: The Videos 1989-2004." The DVD set features 21 clips, starting with the single "One" and following the band's career straight through to its most recent release, "St. Anger." Here is a few answears Lars gave sfgate.com a few days ago.
Q: You guys were not so into making videos at first. What changed? A: You know what? Nobody wanted to make videos with us. So it wasn't like anybody was going, "Please come make a video for 'Seek and Destroy.' It just didn't seem like we were part of that whole thing in the '80s.
Q: Do you remember the first time you saw Metallica on TV? A: Yeah. I remember when I saw the first video that we did on "Dial MTV" or something, and it was pretty different from the nine other videos that were on there. So at least we got that part right.
Q: Do you have a favorite clip? A: I would say the "One" video has aged pretty well. It still plays pretty unique, so I'm obviously pretty proud of that.
Q: What else do you like? A: "I Disappear" plays pretty good. At least my 8-year-old thinks so, because Tom Cruise is in it.
Q: Tom Cruise was in a Metallica video? A: Yeah. They asked if we would write a song for his movie ("Mission: Impossible II"), so I spent a whole day on the set with him in L.A., met John Woo, saw some of the footage and got the whole treatment, which was very cool. But we never interacted with him in the video. That was all cut together.
Q: Exactly how crazy was he at that time? A: Tom Cruise? He's super cool. He instantly makes you feel like you've known him his entire life. He has that effect on you. I've seen him a couple of times since, and he always remembers my name. Good vibes.
Q: Is there anything you would have personally left off? A: Nah. Looking at the list here, I can't say there are any of these videos that are embarrassing to me. There are some that are a little more experimental and some that make you scratch your chin, but I would say most of this stuff has aged better than I thought. Other than a few somewhat ridiculous haircuts, I'm pretty proud of this collection. I'm getting all misty-eyed.
Producer comments
Kerry King, the frontman of metal band Slayer has slammed rivals Metallica calling them a 'sinking ship'.
King is particularly amused by Metallica's choice to hire producer Rick Rubin for their next album, reported contactmusic.com. He said: 'I'm surprised he's going to be doing the next Metallica record because I don't know how he's going to right that sinking ship.'
Velvet Revolver initially began working on its second album last year with Rick Rubin, the superstar producer who's currently overseeing Metallica, But the band parted with Rubin after a brief time and hired Brendan O'Brien instead. Frontman Scott Weiland said Velvet Revolver and Rick Rubin were not a good match. "The Rick thing didn't work out, and, you know, he was working on a couple of other things, Metallica and U2, and so we kind of became very uninspired."

Sony Classical will release We All Love Ennio Morricone - an all-star tribute album celebrating the music of the revered Italian composer Ennio Morricone, performed by some of the greatest names from the worlds of contemporary pop, rock, jazz, and classical music - on Tuesday, February 20.
Conceived and produced by Luigi Caiola, who worked on the maestro's monumental retrospective, io, Ennio Morricone, in 2003, We All Love Ennio Morricone brings together seventeen exquisite interpretations - most of them newly recorded especially for this collection - of Morricone's best-loved film scores and other musical pieces showcasing the extraordinary range of the composer's influences and sensibilities.
All of the artists participating in We All Love Ennio Morricone have a special connection to Morricone's music. Many of them have previously recorded Morricone's songs, performed his music onstage, or used his pieces as overtures to concerts, including Celine Dion, Quincy Jones featuring Herbie Hancock, Bruce Springsteen, Andrea Bocelli, Metallica, Yo-Yo Ma, Renee Fleming, Daniela Mercury, Eumir Deodato, Dulce Pontes, Chris Botti, Vanessa and the O's, Roger Waters featuring Edward Van Halen, Denyce Graves, and Taro Hakase.
Commenting on the new CD, Morricone said, "You realize that you have composed important music when someone, somewhere is playing it. I am however astonished, obviously in a good way, that famous artists from the musical world have paid tribute to me by participating in the project, We All Love Ennio Morricone, that brings together my most well-known compositions in different versions and fascinating interpretations thanks to the different musical origins of the various artists. My thanks to everyone, I am deeply honored."
"Not only the film industry, but the music industry at large, are deeply indebted to this phenomenal composer whose expressivity embraces so many genres with such integrity and creativity," said Renee Fleming. "The evocative nature of his work dramatically enhances the visual image and resonates in our deepest emotions."
"I have been inspired by Morricone's raw unbridled emotion, especially in his western scores," said James Hetfield of Metallica. "As a band, we have used his moving 'Ecstasy of Gold' piece as an intro to our performances since 1983."
In addition to three orchestral tracks - "Gabriel's Oboe," "The Tropical Variation" and "Cinema Paradiso" - performed by Ennio Morricone, the composer has created transitional pieces for We All Love Ennio Morricone to seamlessly connect the individual tracks into a continuously flowing listening experience.
We All Love Ennio Morricone caps a series of unprecedented honors for the 78-year-old composer, who will receive an Honorary Academy Award® at the 79th Academy Awards® presentation on February 25, 2007, in Los Angeles "for his magnificent and multifaceted contributions to the art of film music." Morricone has been nominated for five Academy Award Best Original Score nominations - "Days of Heaven" (1978), "The Mission" (1986), "The Untouchables" (1987), "Bugsy" (1991) and "Mal?na" (2000). "Receiving an Oscar almost seems like too much, but I can't hide the fact that I'm very happy," said Morricone.
The composer's North American concert debut will take place at Radio City Music Hall on February 3 where he will be conducting the symphonic version of some of the music from We All Love Ennio Morricone. He will lead an ensemble of more than 200 musicians from the Rome Sinfonietta Orchestra and the Canticum Novum Singers of New York.
At a private concert at the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York on Friday, February 2, 2007, welcoming the incoming Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon of South Korea, Morricone will lead the same orchestra and chorus. The United Nations concert will feature his elegiac "Voci dal Silenzio (Voices from the Silence)," a piece written in response to the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001.
In addition to Morricone's New York concert appearances, The Museum of Modern Art will present a retrospective of six landmark films scored by Morricone including "The Battle of Algiers," "Once Upon a Time in the West," "Two Mules for Sister Sara," "Once Upon a Time in America," "The Mission," and "U Turn," from February 1 through February 7. The Film Forum will run a three-week festival of films scored by Morricone to run from February 2 through February 22.
Born in Rome in 1928, Ennio Morricone studied classical and choral music before writing his first film scores in 1962. In 1964, he began his monumental collaborations with director Sergio Leone which would result in some of the most iconic scores in film history.
While perhaps best-known for his monumental contributions to more than 500 indelible film and television scores including "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," "The Mission," "Once Upon a Time in America," "The Untouchables," "Cinema Paradiso" and others, Ennio Morricone has worked an astounding number of musical genres - including classical, pop, rock, jazz, avant-garde, electronic and Italian folk music into his own unique and timeless oeuvre.

"Let it ride" honored
Let it Ride, a full-length film about legendary snowboarder Craig Kelly, was honored with “Best Picture” and “Best Soundtrack” awards on the closing night of the 2007 X-Dance Film Festival in Park City, Utah
Let it Ride, directed by veteran filmmaker Jacques Russo and produced by Locomotion Films, traces the life of the charismatic world champion and explores how he was a defining part of the snowboard culture as it matured from renegade outsider sport to mainstream acceptance. The film is narrated by Metallica singer James Hetfield and the soundtrack includes Pearl Jam, Metallica, the Doors, Johnny Cash and Edgar Winter among others.
Iron Maiden/Megadeath/Sepultura/Slayer
И получился ШЕДЕВР, где кроме Bleeding Me, есть также Кing Nothing, Until It Sleeps, Cure, Hero Of The Day и, конечно же, Outlaw Torn - бессмертное произведение, к-е надо по-нормалу понять.
S&M 2/5 (можно и ниже)
Alice In Chains.
В Hero Of the Day & Bleeding Me они почти на поверхности, in your face так сказать.
