'Richard Clayderman Plays ABBA' is a studio album mixing both the incredible musical artistry of Benny Andersson and Bjцrn Ulvaeus together with the un-mistakable piano style of Richard Clayderman.

The original songs have once again come back in fashion with the launch of MAMMA MIA! - THE MOVIE in 2008, while the musical is now one of the most successful of all time and continues to draw huge crowds around the world.

This album features Richard's versions of many of ABBA's most successful titles - many of which appear in MAMMA MIA! - THE MOVIE; including 'Dancing Queen', 'Knowing Me Knowing You', 'Super Trouper' and of course, 'Mamma Mia'.

What do ABBA have in common with George Gershwin, Richard Rogers, Cole Porter, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Paul McCartney and Elton John? The obvious answer of course is their gift of natural and melodic composition. I say "gift" because not all composers have this natural talent ; Mozart for example stood out from his contemporaries and indeed was praised by Haydn for possessing such a quality.

Since their Eurovision debut in 1974 - one year actually having earned more revenue for their country than Volvo - ABBA have remained as popular today as any time in their career as is evident by their current UK album chart reissues.

My selection of ABBA songs has been determined by how well they transcribe for the piano. I have also taken some creative license by arranging S.O.S in the style reminiscent of a Court Batsie arrangement.

I trust you will enjoy hearing this album as much as I did
recording it.

On this early-1990s release, guitarist Jean-Paul Bourelly began a string of increasingly sympathetic producers. Production, and judicious instrumentation, are crucial to Cassandra Wilson's deep, arch aesthetic. Here, her smoky voice finds a casual, sensuous, tenor-sax richness amid Bourelly's electric-guitar riffing. Her singing suggests many inspirations. Betty Carter and Nina Simone, certainly, but Ella, Sarah, and Billy echo in her poise, personality, and stylishness. Dinah Washington and Carmen McRae come to mind as well. Also formative were Wilson's 1980s contributions to New York's M-Base collective. They involved exploration of all the African-American musics then afloat. M-Base also was committed to artistic self-definition. Here, 6 of the 10 selections are by Wilson, including "Don't Look Back," one of her several anthems of black resilience. --Peter Monaghan

In world of musical clones, Tania Maria stands out as a true original. The native of Brazil has created her own effervescent musical style from elements of Brazilian samba and bossa nova, funk, pop and jazz music. Igniting the highly combustible combination with her blistering piano playing, acrobatic voice, fiery songwriting and charismatic, electrifying energy. Something of a Latino-tinged version of Al Jarreau. Tania Maria sticks mostly to Brazilian pop on this concise and highly dancable album. Unlike other outings, most of the emphasis is placed on her vocals this time around. Arguably, it's not her strongest suit, but even on a bad day, she can crank out tunes with the best of them. Her scats rank up there with the all time greats. She even throws a rap into the mix on the track "Happiness". But it's not strictly a dance album, Maria slows the tempo down to a simmering, slow groove on several songs. If have the good fortune of tuning into Outrageous, come prepared to move your body, because whether it's fast Latin funk or slow Brazilian grooves, the music jumps up at you from the opening track. Following their successful live album, Floetry returned to the studio after some much needed rest from constant touring and album-making. Relaxed and very much reenergized, Floetry then issued Flo'Ology, which rises to the top of the list as one of the best things the group has ever released. The blueprint pretty much stays the same: tasteful, funky neo-soul grooves blended with emotive R&B crooning and spoken word poetry. But there's a much-needed sense of refinement to their style and vocal delivery this time around, a hint of maturity that was lost on their debut and subsequent releases. The ferocity that made Floetic the album of the neo-soul jet set has been replaced by a calmer, more introspective duo confident of their abilities and -- most importantly -- understanding when to restrain themselves from becoming just another cookie-cutter R&B group (check out "Lay Down" for the best example of this discipline). The one thing detracting from Flo'Ology is the length of the songs, with many of them bordering on or exceeding the five-minute mark; combined with the repetition of themes, this length tends to drag down and unnecessarily carry songs on longer than they should, but that's a trivial complaint considering all of the fine-tuning, general improvement, and overall quality boost that Flo'Ology delivers from start to finish. ~ Rob Theakston, All Music Guide

Если вы думаете, что на этом головоломки заканчиваются, то глубоко заблуждаетесь: музыканты, принявшие участие в записи, и песни, вошедшие в альбом, были перечислены на обложке винилового LP на языке эсперанто. Но мы не пойдем у Элвиса (Деклана?) на поводу и будем далее учитывать его вклад в альбом под его наиболее известным именем, хотя и не настоящим, - Elvis Costello.
