This album finds the BNH heading back to the groove-driven, horn-splashed, hand-clapping funk of their debut album, with N'Dea Davenport stepping back into her role as diva/lead vocalist. Following the string of distinguished rappers who made BNH's sophomore album a brave if not wholly successful attempt to infuse rap with the energy of live instruments, Davenport delivers the consistency that was missing from that effort. Repeated listens show this album to be catchier than it initially seems (as long as one avoids "Fake," tone of the most irritating songs in a long time), and when the BNH really lock into a groove, as they do on "Keep Together," the title track, and the instrumental "Snake Hips," they surely do put the funk back in it. It's always an amazing thing when a popular musician is given the opportunity to follow his or her musical muse freely and, if so moved, can so effortlessly switch off between two forms of music whose fans tend to polarize. The famed Japanese saxman has had his handful of smooth jazz successes over the years (including a classic duet with Patti Austin) in the genre's early days called "Any Other Fool"), but here returns to his bop-influenced roots. With his place in jazz history secure and not having to prove too much chops wise, Watanabe often seems content here to blend in with his amazing band, dueting on lead melodies and giving ample solo time to each of his troop members. Who can blame him, though, with cats like flugelhornist Nicholas Payton (who matches the saxman's alto note for note on the swinging, percussive melody of the opening tune "Smokin' Section"), pianist Cyrus Chestnut, bassist Christian McBride, and drummer Billy Drummond? At a time in his life when he could just lay back and play some standards, Watanabe marks his return with all original material (a feat in itself) that's also very eclectic. In the 1990s, it's rare to hear trombone in settings other than a horn section, but Watanabe gives Robin Eubanks' trombone equal billing on the gentle blues ballad "Where You At." Eubanks also plays a key role on the densely percussive "Forest Song," an almost avante garde type piece that finds the trombone and sax in a race to determine which can be more wacky. Watanabe enjoys mood-swinging immensely, following that type of tune with the dreamy waltz-flavored title cut and then ending the set with a snazzy jam session like "Aquarian Groove." ~ Jonathan Widran, All Music Guide

Bauhaus - Swing the Heartache: The BBC Sessions (1989)

Типичный альбом для популярных английских групп - записи для BBC, сделанные в режиме "живого" выступления. Можно рассматривать как "живой" альбом, можно - как компиляцию.

Обложка этого альбома может пролить некоторый свет на то, почему группа назвала себя Bauhaus. И так, представьте себе дома, построенные когда-то с определенным конструктивистским изыском, но изыском нечеловеческим, механистическим (типа, машины для жилья - по определению Ле Корбюзье). Жить в них, наверно, не очень уютно, и постепенно они превращаются в этакий местный Гарлем, не слишком регулярно ремонтируемый и постепенно приходящий в негодность. И ходят по лестницам этих умирающих домов не только их жильцы, но и какие-то явно потусторонние создания (см. обложку).

Альбом вышел на виниле в 1988 г., первое издание на CD - 1998 г.

Альбом интересен наличием раритетов, не включенных в студийные альбомы (вроде Poison Pen). Кроме того, это живые версии, иногда заметно отличающиеся от альбомных. В частности, интересна более энергичная версия Terror Couple Kill Colonel - более быстрая (по сравнению со студийой) и с акцентированными ударными. Постановка звука вполне приличная (Би-Би-Си - все-таки учреждение достойное), но, к сожалению, до феноменального уровня Press the Eject and Give Me the Tape не дотягивает. В частности, мне кажется, что голос вокалиста Питера Мерфи во многих случаях подан тише чем надо.

Найдено в сети. Ни один из треков не прошел проверку по AccurateRip (хотя настройки EAC вроде бы правильные).

Among American audiences, Manu Dibango is best known for "Soul Makossa," a highly infectious blend of African music, soul-funk, and jazz that became a major pop hit in the early '70s. The African artist revisited his signature tune on 1994's Wakafrika, which boasts an all-star cast that includes Peter Gabriel as well as Haiti's Papa Wemba and African heroes Ladysmith Black Mambazo, King Sunny Ade, and Youssou N'Dour. With such a stellar bunch of guests, Wakafrika should have been outstanding instead of simply decent. But while it isn't the all-out masterpiece it should have been, there's a lot that's enjoyable on this CD, including the reggae-influenced "Em'ma," a remake of Gabriel's "Biko," and the "Makossa"-ish jams "Wakafrika" and "Jingo." Though likable enough, Dibango's new version of "Soul Makossa" falls short of the excellence of the original -- but then, one couldn't realistically expect him to improve on perfection. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide

These sessions were recorded for Blue Note in 1961 and 1963. The first date features five cuts with Jack Mcduff on organ, Grant Green on guitar, and Joe Dukes on drums. The four remaining cuts were recorded two years later with John Patton on organ, Ben Dixon on drums, and the addition of Irvin Stokes on trumpet. This is a mainly mellow affair with six of the nine tracks exchanging the hard bop and soul-jazz of the times for ballads and slow blues. Bauhaus - Burning From The Inside (1983)

Четвертый альбом группы, вышедший на Beggar's Banquet Records. Эта же фирма в 1989 г. переиздала альбом на CD, добавив четыре бонусных песни. Я копировал это дело с CD, выпущенного A&M Records. Граждане выпустили альбом так, как он был, без бонусов. Как ни искал, не нашел никаких упоминаний о том, ремастер это или нет.

Во время записи альбома Питер Мерфи серьезно заболел пневмонией, и из-за болезни принимал не такое активное участие в написании песен и в их записи. В результате при записи значительного числа песен басист Дейвид Джей и гитарист Дэниел Эш выступали в качестве вокалистов. Оно, конечно, производственная необходимость, но, возможно, был в этом еще и мотив "и без тебя обойдемся!". Импозантный (по крайней мере, он мог быть таким) Питер Мерфи снялся для рекламной кампании фирмы Maxell, остальным же участникам группы это не нравилось. Типа, в теннис играем вместе, а доходы с рекламы у одной Курниковой. Ну а Мерфи, конечно, весьма не понравилось то, что группа начала записывать альбом, не дожидаясь его выздоровления. Это привело к трениям в коллективе, обострившимися во время последующего концертного тура, и Bauhaus решили разойтись. Последнее выступление группы состоялось 5 июля 1983 г. в Hammersmith Palais (Лондон).

И так, моя копия с диска от A&M Records, все треки прошли проверку по базе AccurateRip.

Andreas Vollenweider - 1981 - ...Behind The Gardens - Behind The Wall - Under The Tree...

Андреас Фолленвайдер родился в Цюрихе, 4-го октября 1953 года. Его отец - Ганс Фолленвейдер, один из известнейших органистов Европы.

Благодаря знакомствам своей семьи, Андреас оказался окруженным художниками, скульпторами, музыкантами, танцорами, писателями. Возможно, вследствие этого, он увлекся коллекционированием музыкальных инструментов и стал профессионально играть на гитаре, фортепиано, флейте и арфе. В свое время Андреас пытался брать уроки игры на арфе, но результаты были слабые и ему пришлось придумывать свой собственный стиль игры.

В 1979 году он записывает первый сольный альбом под названием "Eine Art Suite en 13 Teilen", (еще одна сюита в 13 частях). Альбом вышел только в Швейцарии и найти его в других странах практически невозможно, хотя несколько (даже большинство) произведений с него позднее были включены в альбом "Trilogy". До этого альбома Андреас играл в ансамбле "Poetry & Music", с которыми записал 3 альбома.

В 1981 диск "Behind the Garden..." выходит на студии CBS и немедленно получает восторженные отзывы со стороны критики и награды журналов. Вслед за ним выходит "Caverna Magica" и также встречается восторгом слушателей. С этого момента начинается всемирное признание Андреаса. Билеты на его концерты раскупаются заранее и в Америке и в Европе.

1984 год - выходит саундтрек к фильму, посвященному Гринпис. За ним с интервалом в год выходят "White Winds" и "Down to the Moon", а потом, после двухлетнего перерыва - "Dancing with the Lion". Еще через два года выходит диск "Book of Roses".

1987 год - "Down to the Moon" завоевывает премию "Grammy".

На записанном в 1993-м "Eolian Minstrel" впервые присутствует вокалист, Eliza Gylkison. Тексты песен на диске принадлежат Андреасу и Элизе.

Последний альбом - "Kryptos" - вышел в 1997 году, в его аранжировке участвовал симфонический оркестр. Взято отсюда..

В то время, когда Москву и всю Россию охватил "бум мюзиклов", когда мелодии из модных "раскрученных" зарубежных мюзиклов распевает вся страна, многим может показаться, что это - новое явление, что ничего подобного прежде у нас не было. Но это не так. Ново только само слово "мюзикл", а удачные примеры созданных в России (тогда ещё СССР) популярных мюзиклов имеется. И один из первых в их ряду - "Юнона и Авось" Алексея Рыбникова и Андрея Вознесенского. Записи первой постановки разошлись многомиллионными тиражами, после чего последовали легальные и нелегальные перезаписи и переиздания. Короче говоря, у "Юноны и Авось" достаточно оснований не становиться в очередь за признанием в очередь за признанием своей популярности и по-прежнему оставаться "на плаву".

The Mannish Boys - Lowdown Feelin

There are no fewer than 20 musicians contributing to the Mannish Boys' fourth release, which makes this album more the product of a collective or revue than an actual band. Despite the players changing on nearly every tune, this is nevertheless a strong and surprisingly cohesive set of Chicago styled blues originals and a few choice covers that click due to the talents of those involved. Producer and label owner Randy Chortkoff emphasizes that there is no digital recording involved and few overdubs, which makes for a rootsy, down-home blues stew that breathes. Veteran singer Finis Tasby only appears on three tracks but one of them, a cover of "If the Washing Don't Get You, the Rinsing Will," (best known from Albert King's version), featuring a stinging guitar solo from Kirk "Eli" Fletcher, is one of this disc's highlights. Old-school harpist/vocalist Little Sammy Davis joins to cover two of his own songs and is a classy addition to the revolving door lineup. Covers of Billy "The Kid" Emerson's "The Woodchuck," Texas Pete Mayes' title track, and Howlin' Wolf's obscure pre-Chess recording "Chocolate Drop" show how deep this group digs for interesting material. Not so much for yet another version of Willie Cobbs' "You Don't Love Me" (as an instrumental with a rugged guitar solo from Fletcher) or Willie Dixon's "The Same Thing," even if both are given spirited readings. Chortkoff takes the lead on his own "Rude Groove," little more than a rewrite of Sonny Boy Williamson's "Help Me" but urged along mightily by tough six-string leads from Frank "Paris Slim" Goldwasser and guest Kid Ramos, along with Fred Kaplan's mighty B-3 and Chortkoff's harp. Another old timer, Johnny Dyer, sings with requisite down and out emotion and a distinct Muddy Waters inflection as Al Blake does the harp duties on the slow blues of "Good Times." There's not a bland or rote moment throughout this long -- 73-minute, 17-track -- but never boring disc. Even though you'll constantly be checking the credits to figure out who is playing and singing, the results are worth the effort. ~ Hal Horowitz, All Music Guide

Despite the success of Bad, it was hard not to view it as a bit of a letdown, since it presented a cleaner, colder, calculated version of Thriller -- something that delivered what it should on the surface, but wound up offering less in the long run. So, it was time for a change-up, something even a superstar as huge as Michael Jackson realized, so he left Quincy Jones behind, hired Guy mastermind Teddy Riley as the main producer, and worked with a variety of other producers, arrangers, and writers, most notably Bruce Swedien and Bill Bottrell. The end result of this is a much sharper, harder, riskier album than Bad, one that has its eyes on the street, even if its heart gets middle-class soft on "Heal the World." The shift in direction and change of collaborators has liberated Jackson, and he's written a set of songs that is considerably stronger than Bad, often approaching the consistency of Off the Wall and Thriller. If it is hardly as effervescent or joyous as either of those records, chalk it up to his suffocating stardom, which results in a set of songs without much real emotional center, either in their substance or performance. But, there's a lot to be said for professional craftsmanship at its peak, and Dangerous has plenty of that, not just on such fine singles as "In the Closet," "Remember the Time," or the blistering "Jam," but on album tracks like "Why You Wanna Trip on Me." No, it's not perfect -- it has a terrible cover, a couple of slow spots, and suffers from CD-era ailments of the early '90s, such as its overly long running time and its deadening Q Sound production, which sounds like somebody forgot to take the Surround Sound button off. Even so, Dangerous captures Jackson at a near-peak, delivering an album that would have ruled the pop charts surely and smoothly if it had arrived just a year earlier. But it didn't -- it arrived along with grunge, which changed the rules of the game nearly as much as Thriller itself. Consequently, it's the rare multi-platinum, number one album that qualifies as a nearly forgotten, underappreciated record. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

В альбоме Arabesque Non-Stop Best Hits 2005(Japan) что-то со звуком, по крайней мере в треках первого десятка. Воспринимается аналогично тому, как буд-то игла на пластинке прыгает с дорожки на дорожку.

Bauhaus - Gotham (1999)

После распада группы музыканты занялись сольными проектами или работали в ансамблях, причем с изрядным коммерческим успехом, однако у них периодически возникало весьма настойчивое желание возродить Bauhaus. Одна из таких попыток почти удалась, но Мерфи не смог присоединиться к остальным членам группы. Те же решили выступать как трио, в результате Дэниел Эш и братья Хаскинс образовали в 1985 г. группу Love and Rockets. В 1998 г. Bauhaus все же воссоединился в полном составе и отправился в "Resurrection Tour". Во время этого тура и был записан концертный альбом Gotham, вышедший в 1999 г. Однако это воссоединение было недолгим.

По сравнению с отменным звуком Press the Eject and Give Me the Tape, Gotham - просто шаг назад. Звучание у него хотя вполне приличное для "живого" альбома, но временами явно грязновато. Обращает на себя внимание то, что психоделические электронные навороты практически исчезли, а гитарная игра стала строгой, четкой и даже чрезмерно рациональной. В общем, звучание группы стало куда более мейнстримовым. Слова некоторых песен тоже оказались подправленными, чтобы больше соответствовали новому звучанию.

Моя копия с диска от Metropolis Records. Все треки прошли проверку по базе AccurateRip.

Dj Dado - The Album (1996)

Flavio Daddato, более известный как DJ Dado, в последние годы жил очень интенсивной жизнью. Другая его композиция ''Metropolis'', выпущенная летом 1996 года, покорила европейский TOP 40.
Летом 1996 года DJ Dado выпустил свой первый альбом, который он назвал ''The Album''. Michael Burks - Iron Man

Michael Burks' third release on Alligator Records, Iron Man, is as close to being a live album as you can get from a studio performance. This could be attributed to Burks using his seasoned road band on this date instead of the Memphis studio musicians used previously on Make It Rain and I Smell Smoke. Alongside Burks' searing Flying V strut, Wayne Sharp's greasy Hammond B-3 dominates this set, reveling in soul and rock influences, including a cover version of Free's "Fire and Water," a definite nod to the blues-rock audience Burks has gained over his 30-plus years on the road. While Iron Man is an overall inspired modern electric blues disc, a few missteps hamper the session. "Ashes in My Ashtray," penned by Chicago bluesman Jimmy Johnson, would have made a better instrumental in this particular case, as the lyrics get in the way of an intense Burks guitar performance. "Don't Waste My Time" is a pleasant enough midtempo track, but falls by the wayside compared to the gritty blues of "Changed Man" and "Love Disease." As on previous releases, Burks' explosive guitar solos are the most notable aspect to this enthusiastic, if somewhat predictable, outing. ~ Al Campbell, All Music Guide
